Belonging to the racetam group of nootropics, Piracetam is a synthetic derivative of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid. While its clinical applications are still being investigated, it has been shown to have neuroprotective and anticonvulsant effects in cognitive disorders, dementia, dyslexia, vertigo, sickle cell anemia, and cortical myoclonus. These properties are thought to be related to its ability to modulate neurotransmission, which in turn restores cell membrane fluidity.
